IX. Women's USASA Region I Challenge Cup Lauren Ware reported that she sent a letter to all of Region I from Maine to Virginia and West Virginia inviting the Women's teams to participate. This Cup will take place August 5 and 6 at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. The Cup is basically being run as a loss, but on the positive side, there have been leagues that have affiliated in the last 2 years. She stated she needs help soliciting ads, donations of both sponsors and equipment and that this is not her tournament but that of the State and Region. Lauren stated that she was interviewed by the Washington Post on "Why Older Women/Soccer Moms Want to Play Soccer." X. Curtis Wilson, the women's coach will hold State Select Team Tryouts on May 20 in Richmond, and in Northern Virginia on May 8 and 15. For information call Lauren Ware. If the women are selected they will be required to play in PA on June 10th and 11th. The players will be reimbursed for mileage. Women's Referee Pilot Course will take place in Richmond on August 12 and August 26. There will be 2, 8-hour sessions (ending with a field practice). The registration fee is $40 and upon passing the course and working six (6) games they would be reimbursed. Registration deadline is July 31 and 15 women/girls are a must for the course and up to 25 women will be accepted. XI. Scott Meyer, the State Referee Administrator, reported that his grant of $7000 did not get approved and still wants our financial help to run the Referee Camps. The aim is to train Referees at higher levels. They hope to get at least 20 adults and 15 youth Referees. The participants will pay $50, and the rest will be subsidized. The Adult will take place in August. He has run a course for Jim Sadowski's league and ran a course in Spanish for the Culpepper League last month. There were 8 new Referees that graduated from the course. There was a motion made by Jim Sadowski to fund the $7000 and receipts would be provided to document the expenses of the actual costs and if there were monies left over, they would be returned to the State. This seemed to be favorable to those present. Lot 4 Youth Soccer Nite at RFK will be the focus from 4-8pm on May 13. If you would like to help in Scott's tent, it would be much appreciated. Check out the Referee web page for information on classes and contacts. Games only count that are assigned by Certified Assignors. To be a certified assignor requires a one-day class and $10. XII. National Cups by Luis del Aguila stated there were 5 State Champions. XIII. A letter from Sybil Tillotson was faxed to Wally and stated the team she was on received $600 in a check payable to Kip Germaine and the team never saw the money. This matter will be checked into. XIV. Coed Cup by Jim Sadowski- stated that this is the 2nd year and that it is open to 16 teams, 4 from each region. There will be an Over 30 and an Open. There was both e-mail and a letter mailed to all of the states and so far New Jersey might have one team interested. May 15 is the Preliminary, with the Cup being held September 29, 30 and Oct. 1. XV. Ted Adams, of the Virginia Pyros was a guest from one of Wolf Antoni's league. He has been offered to participate in and International Friendly game in Bermuda on May 26 to promote coed soccer. Ted's team will face a combination of both the Men and Women's National Teams of Bermuda. Seventeen players will probably going. He presented a power point presentation of what they were doing and what they hoped to accomplish both in coed soccer and started programs in Bermuda for at risk children, etc. They were asking for $2000 to help defray expenses. After much discussion, this motion was not received favorably as member leagues stated they would want to go overseas and they would ask for monies too. XVI. Web Page - Since Ben is no longer interested in hosting the MDCVSA Web Page, Mike Gregory from Derek's league, who has his own computer business is interested in donating his labor for free. The cost to MDCVSA will be approx. $75 for the year. We were paying $50 a month. XVII. For the Good of the Game - Lauren is selling raffle tickets @ $5 each for an autographed soccer ball by the National Women's Team. So call her, there are still a few tickets available. XVIII. The meeting was adjourned at 2pm. Respectfully submitted, Suzie Price, Exec. Sec. P. S. : I hope I got everything as I was the fill in secretary and did not have a tape recorder.
