Bier FC captain Roger Hale comments upon their second trip to the national finals in three years:
Bier FC O30 long journey ended over the weekend. Bier lost to eventual National Champs from Washington State. The game recap:

  • Bier started very tentative and nervous for the first 10-15 mins. Then Irad [Bier FC player] scored. But the other team scored two quick goals before half, 2:1 them.
  • Bier started the half fired up and scored 3 goals by Matt, Ricky and Marcelo. 4:2 Bier.
  • With about 35 mins left in the game we lost a player to a red card. They scored a few mins later. 4:3 Bier.
  • A few mins later we lost another player to a red card. And a few mins after that they scored 4-4 tied. (I know - crazy!) Of course we berated the ref for his calls against us and the no calls for us. Bier dug deep and kept in tied during regulation play.
  • Then we had to play two 15 min, golden goal OT periods. It was still tied after almost 60 mins of playing with 9 guys. The boys played with so much heart! By this time several hundred people had amassed around our game as we went into the dreaded shoot out.
  • Roger stopped the first two shots and everything seemed to be ok in the world again. But Bier was very unlucky, after the 7th shooter we had hit the post twice and then their goalie had made one save to give them the win. The journey had ended . . . .
